BACnet Global Market Share On the Rise!

A new market research study indicates BACnet’s global market share has continued to rise over the last five years and now exceeds 60%. The study, titled “Market Penetration of Communications Protocols” was conducted by BSRIA, a well-known provider of market intelligence in HVAC and Building Automation and Control (BACS). The five-year outlook projects continued growth in BACnet adoption with continual improvements to the standard and its integration with IT technologies, such as IPv6 and web services. The BSRIA study draws on data from annual BACS market studies conducted by BSRIA since 2012 coupled with additional primary research. The BSRIA study will be published in the first quarter of 2018.

BACnet International has developed a BACnet Global Adoption report for its corporate members drawing information from the BSRIA market study. The BACnet adoption report includes BACnet market share data specific to various countries and regions of the world, as well as projected BACnet adoption rates through 2022. The report also includes information on the fraction of project specifications that require BACnet in various countries and regions of the world.

“BACnet adoption has been driven by the powerful benefits it provides to both users and suppliers.” stated Andy McMillan, president & managing director of BACnet International. “People in the building automation industry are well aware of the broad adoption of BACnet but there has not been much quantitative data available. The BACnet Adoption report fills that gap.”

BACnet International corporate members may obtain the BACnet Adoption study as part of their membership benefits by contacting the BACnet International office.

The BSRIA “Market Penetration of Communications Protocols” covers BACnet and other building automation communications protocols. When published, the study will be available from BSRIA at
